| Item | What we check | Typical concern | If left unchecked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil | Level and condition | Fuel dilution, additive breakdown | Accelerated engine wear |
| Tyres | Tread, pressures, sidewalls | Uneven inner-edge wear | MOT failure, poor grip |
| Battery | Load test, charging voltage | Weak cell before winter | Non-start, module faults |
| Coolant | Level, strength, colour | Slow leaks, wrong mixture | Overheating, water pump damage |
| Wipers and washers | Blade condition, jet operation | Smearing, blocked jets | MOT failure, poor visibility |
| Brake pipes and hoses | Corrosion, chafing, perishing | Surface rust on unions | MOT failure, fluid loss |
| Exterior lights | All bulbs and lenses | Blown bulbs, condensation | MOT failure, fixed-penalty risk |
If you cover under 10,000 miles a year and the car is serviced annually, probably not. If you cover 15,000 miles or more, an interim service means the oil is changed roughly every 8,000 to 9,000 miles instead of stretching the full distance, which is what the engine was designed around. High-mileage drivers see the benefit in engine longevity and fewer surprise repairs.
Usually not, because the LongLife regime already adjusts the interval to how the car is driven. The exceptions are hard-used cars, short-trip diesels and remapped engines, where we sometimes recommend an additional oil change regardless of regime. If that applies to your car we will say so plainly rather than selling you a service you do not need.
Yes, always. Changing oil without the filter leaves up to half a litre of dirty oil and trapped contaminants in the system, which immediately degrades the fresh fill. Every interim service we carry out includes a genuine or OEM-quality filter and a new sump plug sealing washer as standard, using oil to your engine's exact specification.
Yes. High-mileage company cars are exactly the vehicles interim servicing was designed for. We work to the Volkswagen Group schedule, so the car stays compliant with lease and fleet servicing requirements, and every visit is fully documented. If your leasing or fleet provider needs authorisation before work starts, tell us when you book and we will supply the quote and paperwork they ask for.
Yes. We reset the service reminder with dealer-level equipment so it counts down correctly to your next due date. On cars with flexible servicing the interval settings are matched to the regime the car is actually on, which cheaper generic reset tools frequently get wrong, leaving the reminder appearing at the wrong time.
We record it, photograph it where useful, and tell you before doing anything about it. Nothing is repaired or replaced without your approval. Minor advisories go on your report so you can budget ahead, and anything safety-critical is explained clearly so you can make an informed decision before the car leaves us.
Often it is worth more on an older car. Higher-mileage engines run larger clearances and lean harder on their oil, and age-related faults develop faster. A mid-year inspection catches perishing hoses, corroding pipes and tired batteries on cars that are past their warranty, where every fault found early is money saved.
