Brake Pad Replacement

Brake Pad Replacement for Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Cupra

At VWG Specialists we replace brake pads on Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Cupra models every day. If your discs are still within their wear limits, a pads-only change is the sensible option, and we measure the discs before fitting anything so you are never sold parts you do not need. We use genuine or OEM-quality pads matched to your exact chassis and brake specification.
Modern VW Group cars complicate what used to be a simple job. Electronic parking brakes must be wound back into service mode with dealer-level software before the rear pads come out, and many models use pad wear sensors that need replacing and, on some cars, coding. We run ODIS and VCDS in house, so retraction, sensor resets and warning lights are all handled properly as part of the job.

What's included in a brake pad replacement

Disc measurement first

We measure disc thickness and check for lips, scoring and cracks before fitting pads, so you only pay for discs when they are genuinely needed.

Genuine or OEM-quality pads

Pads matched to your chassis, brake size and driving use. We fit genuine VW Group or equivalent OEM-quality friction material, never bargain-bin pads that squeal and fade.

Electronic parking brake retraction

Rear EPB calipers are placed into service mode with ODIS or VCDS, wound back correctly and recalibrated after fitting. No forced pistons, no damaged motors.

Wear sensor replacement

Where your car uses pad wear sensors we replace them with the pads and clear the warning, so the dash light does not come straight back.

Caliper clean and lubrication

Slider pins and pad carriers are cleaned and lubricated so the new pads wear evenly and the caliper does not stick or drag afterwards.

Anti-squeal fitting kit

New shims, springs and fitting hardware where required, which prevents the squeal and rattle that so often follow a cheap pad change elsewhere.

Warning reset and safety checks

Brake warning messages are reset, the fluid level is checked, hoses are inspected and every wheel bolt is torqued to the factory specification.

Road test and bedding-in advice

Every car is road tested before handover and we explain how to bed the new pads in properly over the first couple of hundred miles.

Fault codes linked to brake pads and the parking brake

Worn pads and botched pad changes both leave their mark in the ABS and parking brake modules. These are the codes we most often see on VW Group cars arriving for pad work, read with ODIS or VCDS before the wheels come off.

P0571

Brake Switch A Circuit. Brake pedal switch fault. Common across the VW Group and often mistaken for a pad problem because a brake warning appears on the dash.

P0504

Brake Switch A/B Correlation. The two brake pedal switch signals disagree with each other. Frequently seen on Golf and Passat models and fixed with a switch, not pads.

00283

ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Left (G47). Front left speed sensor signal fault. Debris from worn pads and corroded discs can disturb the sensor and its ring, so we check this during pad work.

00285

ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Right (G45). Implausible signal from the front right sensor. We inspect the sensor and reluctor while the wheel is off during a pad change.

02432

Parking Brake Motor Left (V282). Electronic parking brake motor fault, very often logged when rear pads are changed without putting the caliper into service mode first.

02433

Parking Brake Motor Right (V283). The right-hand EPB motor equivalent. Forcing the piston back strips the spindle drive, after which the caliper motor needs replacing.

01435

Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201). Pressure sensor fault inside the ABS unit. It can put ESP into fault mode and needs proper diagnosis before any brake parts are ordered.

01130

ABS Operation: Implausible Signal. A general ABS plausibility fault. Worn or mismatched friction parts can contribute, which is why we scan the ABS module with every brake job.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no fixed interval. Motorway-driven cars can see 40,000 miles or more from a set of front pads, while urban driving, towing or a remapped engine can halve that. Rear pads on cars with electronic parking brakes often wear faster than owners expect. We check pad thickness at every service and tell you how much material is left, so a pad change never comes as a surprise.

The wear sensor triggers with a few millimetres of friction material remaining, so the car is not dangerous the moment the light comes on. It is a prompt to book in soon, not a reason to stop at the roadside. Ignore it for weeks and the backing plate will reach the disc, which turns an inexpensive pad change into pads and discs on that axle.

Only if the discs are worn below their minimum thickness, heavily lipped or causing judder. We measure every disc before fitting pads and give you the reading, so the decision is based on numbers rather than guesswork. When discs are needed we cover that work separately on our brake pads and discs page, and we always quote before starting.

Most current VW Group models use an electronic parking brake with a motor on each rear caliper. The piston must be wound back electronically in service mode before the pads come out, then recalibrated afterwards. Forcing the piston back without the software strips the spindle mechanism and the motor, which is an expensive way to save a scan. We use ODIS and VCDS for this on every rear pad change.

No. Under UK block exemption rules an independent garage can service and repair your car without affecting the manufacturer warranty, provided the work uses parts of appropriate quality and is carried out correctly. We fit genuine or OEM-quality pads, follow the factory procedures with dealer-level software and record everything on the invoice, so your warranty position is protected.

Squeal is vibration between the pad and caliper, and it usually follows a fitting without new hardware, missing anti-rattle shims or very hard budget friction material. We fit the correct shims and fitting kit, apply the right lubricant to the contact points and use pads of proper quality, then bed them in on a road test. If an existing squeal brought you to us, we find the cause rather than simply fitting more pads.

The main factors are the axle being done, the pad specification for your model, whether wear sensors need replacing and the condition of the calipers and sliders. Cars with electronic parking brakes involve extra workshop time for retraction and recalibration. We confirm an exact price for your registration before any work starts, and if we find anything else while the wheels are off we call you first.
